Credit.org Story

Credit.org was established in 1974 as an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit community service organization that works to strengthen communities and improve the lives of consumers.

Our mission is simple, yet vital:

Our people improve the lives and financial well-being of individuals and families by providing quality financial education and counseling.

Credit.org provides foreclosure prevention, rent, credit and debt, money management, bankruptcy and reverse mortgage counseling to families and individuals.

In addition, credit.org offers online personal financial education and in-person seminars, and is affiliated with the following organizations:

  • Accredited by the COA (Council on Accreditation)
  • Member of the BBB (Better Business Bureau)
  • Member of the NFCC (National Foundation for Credit Counseling)
  • Approved by the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development  (HUD) as a housing counseling regional intermediary
  • Approved by the Executive Office for U.S. Trustees and U.S. Bankruptcy Administrator as a provider of bankruptcy counseling & education

Credit.org  has helped millions of consumers over the years through a variety of programs funded by federal, state, and local agencies, as well as certain fee for service programs.  Credit.org’s funding, in part, comes from HUD, the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling Program, NFCC, Homeowner Preservation Foundation, Neighborworks America and various mortgage servicers and lenders.

In 2010, credit.org established Springboard Solutions LLC as a wholly-owned limited liability company to administer programs related to the U.S. Dept. of Treasury Hardest Hit Fund for the California Housing Finance Agency Mortgage Assistance Corporation and the Nevada Affordable Housing Assistance Corporation.
